Ingredients:
Small plastic cups or glasses
Paper towels
Food coloring (Primary colors)
Water
Directions:
1. Place 7 cups in a row
and pour water into cups #1, 3, 5, and 7. Cups should be about ¾ of the way
full.
2. Add drops of red food
coloring to the 1st and 7th cup.
3. Add drops of yellow
food coloring to the 3rd cup.
4. Add drops of blue
food coloring to the 5th cup.
5. Take a half sheet of
paper towel and fold it in half, twice, the long way.
6. Trim any extra length
so that too much is not sticking outside of the cup, this helps the water
“walk” faster.
7. Place one half of the
folded paper towel into cup 1 and the other end into cup 2.
8. Repeat steps 5-7
until you have a paper towel in each cup.
9. Sit back and watch
what is happening! Give children materials to record and draw what they see.
*Note: Add in equal drops of food
coloring. If setting up multiple stations of this experiment play with the
variables a bit and see which yields the best results!
