Materials: playdough, your hands, and fingers
Directions:
Make a fresh batch of playdough with
your children.
Knead the Dough: Allow children to knead the
dough to the right consistency. Encourage them to use all parts of their hand
to squish, squeeze, and knead the dough.
Roll It: Encourage children to make balls, snakes, and other creations
that call on them to roll the playdough. Be sure to encourage creations that
are big and small, so they have practice rolling with their whole hand and
individual fingers.
Playdough Prints: Encourage children to roll
out a piece of dough. Keep it thick enough where their fingerprints will show
up. Once they have a piece rolled out, invite them to make individual prints of
each finger by pushing them into the playdough one by one. Notice how the strength
of our pushing changes how well of a print we make!
Playdough Cutting: Set out the dough tools and
scissors and invite the children to cut playdough.
