Let’s Make It

Mix the dry
Mix the flour and salt together in a bowl.

Color the water
Add a few drops of food coloring to the water, then pour it into the flour and salt mixture.

Whip it smooth
Whip well until all the clumps dissolve.
Then paint with it

Thick paper or cardboard holds up best. It dries with a bumpy, sparkly texture children can go back and touch.
Talk about it while you mix
How does it feel before the water goes in? What happened when we added the color? Is it thick or runny now?

Ingredients

¼ cup salt
½ cup flour
½ cup water
Food coloring one color per batch

You’ll Need

Mixing bowl Measuring cups Whisk or fork Small cups Thick paper
Get Them Involved
Let children level off the measuring cups, count the drops of coloring out loud, and take turns whipping until the clumps are gone.
